Sgroppino Friday's 5 o'clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

Happy Birthday Italy!
Italy celebrated the 150th anniversary of its unification yesterday (17 March) but the party continues all week. The Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed on March 17, 1861 after military forces led by national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi conquered the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, which at the time spread from Sicily to Naples. Garibaldi delivered the conquered territory to the King of Piedmont, Savoy and Sardinia, Victor Emanuel II, who then became the first King of Italy.

Our cocktail is actually a Venetian dessert but it’s been transformed into a celebration cocktail. Vodka doesn’t add flavor to the drink, just a hint of warmth at back of the throat and kicks up the cocktail to festive levels!  Mint adds a little bit of green – the anniversary is on St Patrick’s Day too you know - and makes it special.

Ingredients:

1 cup chilled Prosecco (Italian sparkling white wine)
2 tablespoons chilled vodka
1/3 cup frozen lemon sorbet (small ice cream scoop)
1/4 teaspoon chopped fresh mint leaves

Directions:

Pour the Prosecco and vodka into 2 Champagne flutes, diving equally. Spoon a scoop of sorbet into each flute. Sprinkle with a little bit of mint and serve immediately.

Ciao Bella!
