French Connection Friday's 5 o'clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

The French Connection is a classic cocktail that can be served 3 ways. The warm, nutty flavors are delicious any way you choose to drink them. Whether you serve it on the rocks, neat in a snifter or in a mug of hot coffee topped with whipped cream, you will feel the warmth penetrate your body and take the chill right off. The French Connection is a relatively simple drink but don’t let that fool you into thinking that you are about to have an ordinary experience.

French Connection Classic

1 1/2 oz Cognac (Courvoisier, VSOP or Hennessey)
3/4 oz amaretto liqueur (Di Saronno)

Pour the ingredients into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. When drinks are as simple as this, it is important to use more high quality liquors than those you would use for mixed drinks. Stir and serve.

French Connection #2

1 1/2 ounces Courvoisier
1 ounce Grand Marnier

Take out your brandy snifter and pour hot water into it to warm the glass. Once glass is warmed, pour out water and add Courvoisier and Grand Marnier to the snifter. Sip slowly, enjoying the complex, sophisticated flavors of two delectable liquors. Keep the snifter warm by holding the bowl in palm of your hands.

A little know fact about snifters is that they are designed to sit on their sides without spilling their liquid contents. If your French Connection is made correctly with the right amounts of liquor in the right size snifter, you can lay your snifter on its side and the alcohol will simply pool in the bowl. It’s a great way to test if you got a fair shot and a fun cocktail trick.

French Connection Coffee

1 oz Cognac
1 oz amaretto
black coffee
whipped cream
shaved almonds for garnish

Pour the Cognac and amaretto into an Irish coffee glass. Fill with hot coffee.
Top with whipped cream and shaved almonds.

This recipe really warms things up, quite literally.
